The Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele, better known as Teatro Massimo, of Palermo is the largest opera theater building in Italy, and one of the largest in Europe, third by architectural magnitude after the Opéra National de Paris and the Staatsoper of Vienna. Representative environments, halls, galleries and monumental staircases surround the theater it self, forming an architectural complex of grandiose proportions.

The permanent market extends from Piazza Casa Professa to the ramparts of Corso Tukory towards Porta Sant'Agata. The market is famous for selling the first fruits that come from the countryside of Palermo. Ballarò is the oldest among the markets of the city, frequented by hundreds of people every day, animated by the so-called abbanniate, that is, by the noisy calls of sellers who try to attract the interest of passers-by.
